Richard Atencio, 53, of Espanola is slated for a plea hearing in First Judicial District Court April 3 on larceny and tampering with evidence charges in connection with property he allegedly stole in 2015 from Los Alamos National Laboratory.

The criminal complaint, filed in Los Alamos Magistrate Court in April 2016, indicates that the value of the property was more than $2,500 and less than $20,000.

Seven people arrested Tuesday morning during Operation Spring Cleaning, a drug sweep spearheaded by the Los Alamos Police Department, had their first appearances Thursday before Magistrate Judge Pat Casados.

All seven defendants were released on their own recognizance with conditions that include no firearms, no alcohol or drugs, urinalysis requirements, checking in with the probation officer, not being allowed to leave the state without contacting the court, and not being allowed any contact with victims or others involved in the case. Chihyeujim Kao Pleads Guitly To Assault And Battery
Chihyuejim Kao, 61, pleaded guilty to assault and battery against a family member during his arraignment in Los Alamos Magistrate Monday. Kao was arrested March 12 following a domestic disturbance at his home where according to court documents he hit the victim on the head with his palms at which point she locked herself in a room to get away. The victim told officers she hurt her ankle when she jumped to safety from a window because Kao was breaking down the door. St. Patrick’s Day 2017 was a safe one thanks to Atomic City Transit (ACT), the Los Alamos Police Department, and the Los Alamos DWI Planning Council.

The County’s Buzz Bus offered safe rides 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. and 59 people took advantage of this free service. Charles Flowers, the ACT supervisor on duty, remarked that “Passengers were happy the service was available for their use, but more so were very happy other people were using it because it meant no drunk drivers on the road. What a great service the County of Los Alamos provides.”

LAPD’s Operation Spring Cleaning Nets Seven Arrests

Seven people were arrested this morning during Operation Spring Cleaning, a drug sweep by Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD), which began around 7 a.m. and was the result of some four months of work by the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

Police Chief Dino Sgambellone confirmed that the operation was a success and there were no injuries while taking suspects into custody at several local residences.

Los Alamos Police Conduct Morning Arrests

Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone just confirmed to the Los Alamos Daily Post that several of his officers conducted an operation early this morning in which they exercised a series of warrants on local individuals.

Police made a number of arrests during the course of the operation.

Safety Town is returning to Mountain Elementary School 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, June 19-30. This free safety program is open to all children entering Kindergarten in the Fall or who will be five years of age by Sept. 1, 2017.
