New Mexico State Police (NMSP) will conduct sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints during December 2024 in all New Mexico counties.

NMSP is bringing awareness to these events to reduce impaired driving-related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.

New Mexico State Police Arrest Wanted Felon Found In Possession Of Loaded Firearm

NMSP News:

LOS LUNAS—On Nov. 29, 2024, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) officers received information that Carlos Lynch, 40, wanted for numerous felony warrants, was in the area of the Sonic restaurant in Los Lunas.

NMSP officers arrived at the restaurant and located Lynch inside a vehicle parked at a drive-up stall. Officers activated their emergency lights and ordered Lynch to exit the vehicle.

New Mexico State Police Seeks Public’s Assistance In Case Of Murder At House Party In Northern New Mexico

MYERS – On Nov. 16, 2024, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau agents were called to 1096 County Road B27 in Myers, NM to investigate a homicide that occurred at a house party. Through the investigation, NMSP agents learned that a verbal confrontation turned physical, resulting in the murder of Gabriel Rivera, 23.

Jeremiah Salazar was arrested for the murder of Rivera and was charged accordingly.

New Mexico State Police Investigate Officer Involved Shooting Involving Roswell PD

ROSWELL — Nov. 18, 2024, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau was requested by the Roswell Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting (OIS) involving a Roswell Police Department officer.

NMSP agents learned that at approximately 7:30 a.m. a child called 911 from 7 Oak Drive, stating their father had a gun. When officers arrived, they encountered Timothy Riley, 30, outside of his residence and armed with a handgun.

FBI: U.S. Attorney’s Office Secures 10-Year Sentence For Shooting Incident And Federal Firearms Offense

ALBUQUERQUE — A Shiprock man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for a shooting incident that occurred in Shiprock in 2023.

Tyrell Willie, 38, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon, assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

New Mexico State Police Identify And Arrest Driver Involved In Fatal Hit And Run Using License Plate Reader Technology

DEMING — Using the Automatic License Plate Recognition system (ALPR), New Mexico State Police (NMSP) arrested an individual who struck and killed a bicyclist.

At approximately 1 p.m. Nov. 23, 2024, NMSP officers were dispatched to a fatal accident involving a vehicle and bicyclist on N.M. 11 near milepost 8. A passing motorist noticed debris and a bicycle in the dirt off the shoulder of the road and stopped to check the area.

They called 911 when they saw a man, identified as Kevin O’Leary, 69,  deceased near his bicycle. The suspect vehicle had fled the scene and there were no witnesses. Read More

New Mexico State Police Conduct Operation To Tackle Crimes Against Unhoused, Provide Essential Resources

SANTA FE — From Nov. 12 to Nov. 25, the New Mexico State Police Department  (NMSP), in collaboration with Santa Fe Police Department and the Region III Task Force, conducted a proactive operation in Santa Fe to identify individuals victimizing the unhoused population through various criminal activities.

 

Officers contacted 479 individuals and yielded the following results:

  • 25 felony arrests
  • 15 misdemeanor arrests
  • 13 arrests involving drugs
  • 19 arrests of habitual offenders.

FBI: U.S. Attorney’s Office Secures Guilty Plea From Woman Involved In Carjacking And Violent Assault Case

ALBUQUERQUE – The second defendant has pleaded guilty in federal court for her role in a violent carjacking incident that took place on the Navajo Nation in May 2022, following the earlier guilty plea of her accomplice.

According to court documents, on May 9, 2022, Lindsey Yazzie and Brandon Barber attacked a woman driving her Jeep on the Navajo Nation. Yazzie threw a large rock at the vehicle’s windshield, forcing the victim to stop.
