Los Alamos County Expands Significant Traffic-related Notifications With CodeRED Text Messages

COUNTY News:
In response to community feedback requesting more timely updates on significant traffic accidents, the Los Alamos County Office of Emergency Management will work with the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) to expand the use of the CodeRED emergency alert system to include significant traffic-related notifications.
LAPD officials say that this collaboration is intended to help citizens avoid traffic disruptions by providing real-time updates via text message, since most vehicles have hands-free technology.

Los Alamos Police Dept. Releases 2024 3rd Qtr. Crime Stats

LAPD News:

Today, Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone released crime statistics through the third quarter of 2024, which were compiled by the Records Section of the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD).

During the third quarter of 2024, significant contributors to crimes reported to police include:

          • Simple assault (13):
          • Theft/larceny (25); and
          • Fraud cases (18).

Los Alamos Police Investigate Death Of Local Juvenile

LAPD News:

On Oct. 9, at about 1:30 p.m., officers of the Los Alamos Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious 15-year-old juvenile in White Rock.

The first officer on scene performed CPR on the juvenile until the arrival of the LAFD.  Tragically their efforts were not successful, and the juvenile passed away on scene. 

LAPD initiated an unattended death investigation led by their Investigations Unit and will handle the investigation with the utmost care and diligence.

Los Alamos Police Hosts DEA Drug Take Back Day Oct. 26

LAPD News:

On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) will be conducting its biannual DEA Drug Take Back Day.

This event will begin at 10 a.m., run until 2 p.m. and be held in LAPD’s North parking lot (off Central Avenue).

Items not been accepted in the past include:

  • Needles/sharps;
  • Liquids or Creams; and
  • Aerosol/Compressed Medications.

For this event, LAPD will have supplies available for people to be able to dispose of their liquids, creams and aerosols on site. LAPD will also have a sharps container available for anyone to drop off their injectable medications.

State Police Investigate Shooting At CYFD Building

ALBUQUERQUE – On Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau was called to investigate a shooting at 4501 Indian School Road NE in Albuquerque.

State Police Investigations Bureau agents learned, that at around 7:30 p.m. Oct. 1, a security guard working for Securitas Security Services assigned to the CYFD building, observed a male identified as Casey McCray, 36, sleeping on the property.
