‘Wall Of Honor’ Joins ‘Mayfest In The Mountains’ Celebration In Red River Memorial Day Weekend

RED RIVER – The Town of Red River has announced the inclusion of the Wall of Honor as a significant part of this year’s Mayfest in the Mountains celebration over Memorial Day weekend.

Originally known as Faces of the Fallen, the Wall of Honor stands as a poignant visual tribute to every serviceman or woman who tragically lost their lives during the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

JEMEZ SPRINGS – The high-elevation ecosystems of Valles Caldera National Preserve (VCNP)—ranging from 8,000 to 11,254 feet above sea level—support a great diversity of wildlife, including several thousand elk, healthy populations of Gunnison’s prairie dogs, mountain lions, bears, bobcats and coyotes. A rich array of migratory birds can be found in the park’s woodlands, grasslands and wetlands. Chorusing frogs can be heard throughout the day as they take advantage of the spring snow melt-off. Pajarito Mountain Offers Mother’s Day Brunch At Cafe

PAJARITO News:

Pajarito Mountain kicks off the summer season May 12 with a very special brunch for Mother’s Day, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the cafe.

Los Alamos County Parks Division Opens Camp May Campground And Day Use Areas For Summer Season

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Parks and Open Space Division opened the Camp May campground and day use area on Wednesday May 1 for the summer season.

Camp May is a popular campground for locals and visitors, due to its proximity to the Los Alamos townsite, Forest Service trails and Pajarito Mountain Ski Area.

The day use area is available daily on a first-come, first-serve basis; the pavilion is available to reserve online in the County’s webtrac system; and the campground is available to reserve in-person at the Aquatic Center at 2760 Canyon Road.

County Aquatic Center To Close For Day At 8 AM May 7

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Aquatic Center will be open 6 a.m. – 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2024, and then close for the remainder for the day due to a water outage related to construction in the area.

The Aquatic Center is anticipated to reopen at 6 a.m. on May 8.

Junior Ranger Mini Camps At Fort Union May 25-26

WATROUS — Fort Union National Monument announces its annual Junior Ranger Mini-Camps to be held Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. Camps are 90-minutes in length, and there are two 90-minute sessions at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day.

The camps are best suited for children ages 7-12 and will allow them to discover the culture and history of 19th century army life in the American Southwest with ranger-led games and activities.

All camp and park visits are free of charge.

Free Cha-Cha-Cha Dancing At BESC Starts Monday May 6

Everyone is welcome to free ballroom dancing 7-9 p.m. every Monday (except County holidays) at the Betty Ehart Senior Center Center at 1101 Bathtub Row.

It is a Los Alamos County Activity organized by Terry Goodwin and Selmo Jarmillo. Every month they focus on a particular ballroom dance, and in May the focus is Cha-Cha-Cha.
