Within the Fuller Lodge grounds starting at the Romero Cabin and continuing north to Nectar Street – Occasional brief flagger operations on 19th Street for construction vehicles accessing the work site. Sidewalk closures within the Fuller Lodge grounds are in effect and pedestrian detour signage has been placed to direct pedestrians around the work areas. The weather forecast shows no major events for the rest of February. There should be significant thawing of the snowpack heading into March.

Ice fishing is holding up so far. By the end of the month, it may be ending. Eagle Nest Lake is usually the last to thaw. The ice-fishing season could be over early this year.

Streamflows should start to rise. Heavy runoff is likely still a month away.

Now is a good time to take an inventory of your fishing tackle and begin stocking up with your favorite lures, flies, hooks and other needs for the upcoming season. Read More

JEMEZ SPRINGS — Dr. Ana Steffen passed away Feb. 16, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dr. Steffen was one of the first federal employees to step foot on Valles Caldera National Preserve after it was acquired by the federal government in 2000 – first as an archaeologist for the U.S. Forest Service, Cultural Resources Coordinator for the Valles Caldera Trust, and finally as Cultural Resources Program Manager for the National Park Service.

Valles Caldera 2024 Backcountry Vehicle Passes Available

JEMEZ SPRINGS — Backcountry vehicle passes for May 15 through May 31 of the 2024 summer season are now available on Recreation.gov.

The backcountry vehicle route is open May 15 through Nov. 15; weather-permitting.

County Seeks Community Input For White Rock Skate Park Improvement Project To Replace Modular Elements

Los Alamos County Community Services Department (CSD) has begun the project to replace the modular elements for the White Rock Skate Park (99 Sherwood Blvd., in White Rock). American Ramp Company (ARC), in partnership with CSD, is seeking the community’s input on the design and type of modular elements to install.
