CROP Walk/Turkey Trot To Combat Hunger Nov. 23

COMMUNITY News:

The Annual CROP Walk/Turkey Trot will be held on Sunday, Nov. 23 at Los Alamos Middle School.

Sign up will begin at 1 p.m., the event begins at 2 p.m. and participants have the choice of walking or running a 2.5 or 1.7 mile course.

Everyone is eligible to win turkeys and pumpkin pies per a random drawing. Food will be available. T-shirts will be available to those who donate to the CROP Charity.

The Los Alamos Middle School Walk Run Club invites all 7th and 8th grade students and staff to participate in the Marathon Challenge until the end of the school year.

It’s Easy:

  • Walk or run the LAMS track and document the number of laps on the sign-in sheet.

And / Or

  • Accumulate miles on your own, and submit to e.watson@laschols.net toward an end of year goal of 26.2 miles (105 laps around the track)

Explore Small Canyons In White Rock With PEEC

While most of us are familiar with the Red and Blue Dot Trails in White Rock Canyon, there are a number of smaller, lesser-known canyons in the area that are worth exploring.

Experienced hiker Paul Arendt will lead a PEEC hike at 9 a.m., Nov. 1 to discover the wonders of some of these canyons. Arendt will lead a small group on a looping hike, which will include several smaller canyons south of White Rock and east of N.M. 4.

Monday, Oct. 27, will be this year’s last day of shuttle bus service from White Rock to Bandelier National Monument.

YMCA Presents Free Zumba Class For Kids

YMCA News:

Zumbatomics, the Zumba class for kids, combines Latin music with dance movements to create a festive atmosphere where kids can combine fun and fitness at the same time. Songs are tailored for children and they will learn the basic steps to salsa, meringue, cumbia, reggaeton, hip-hop and more.

This Zumba class for kids ages 6-12 begins Oct. 22 at The Family YMCA. The class is 2-15-3 p.m. Wednesdays. Classes are free to all youth in the community. Parents are required to sign a liability form prior to the child attending the class. Annie Trujillo-Garcia is the instructor.
