ALBUQUERQUE  The New Mexico Activities Association announces that the Bosque Boys Head Golf Coach Anthony Strippoli has been recognized as the Compete with Class award recipient for the month of April.

Los Alamos Middle School Hawks Elijah Velasquez, Nic Storey, James Beauparlant and Carson Schramm fought for and won three school records in the 4×100, 4×200 and 800 Medley relays. The New Mexico Athletic Directors Association, interscholastic athletic directors in the state of New Mexico, has announced the 2015 NMADA Male and Female Scholar Athlete Award Winners.

VADITO After wrapping up the most successful winter in resort history earlier this month, Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort announced today that the ski resort will build a new chairlift this summer.

The lift will be Sipapu’s first quad (a chairlift that can accommodate four skiers or snowboarders per chair) and it marks the third lift the resort has installed in less than five years. David Kratzer was 3 seconds off his predicted time in the weekly pace race held on American Springs Road up in the Jemez. 
 
Other accurate predictors included Nikol Strother recording 8 seconds off, Lyle Cunningham with a 10 second differential, 5 year old Anders Medin at 24 seconds off, and Lauraine Maness at 25 seconds.

Los Alamos School of Gymnastics traveled to Belen to compete in the USA Gymnastics New Mexico State Championships.
 
Megan Brown, a first year competitor, won the Younger Bronze Division, taking the gold in the all around with 37.40. She also was the state champion on the floor exercise with 9.65 and on the balance beam with 9.50.
She took a silver on vault with 9.15.

Athletes competed in the Los Alamos Special Olympics Track and Field Meet Saturday at Sullivan Field.

Several volunteers helped work the event and Los Alamos Firefighters also assisted and placed ribbons on athletes at the conclusion of their events.

The Los Alamos Police Department helps raise money for local Special Olympic athletes through T-shirt sales and donations.  Read More

More than 300 runners participated in Saturday’s Valles Caldera Runs.

The runs included 10k, half-marathon and marathon distance races that started and ended at the Banco Bonita staging area on the Valles Caldera National Preserve. Runners were treated to a perfect day for the races, with cool weather and little wind.
