NMAA Selects March ‘Compete With Class’ Honoree

ALBUQUERQUE The New Mexico Activities Association is proud to announce that the Cobre High School Softball team has been recognized as the Compete with Class award recipient for the month of March.

Cobre’s Softball team showed sportsmanship when Chaparral’s special education student, Santana Carrillo, stepped up to the plate.

High Flyers Gymnasts Win At State Meet

Los Alamos High Flyers including Emily Smith, middle front, who won first place at the New Mexico State Level 2 Junior Olympic gymnastics championships March 7 in Albuquerque, becoming the first ever all-around state champion at High Flyers Gymnastics. Smith also claimed the state event championship titles on vault and floor exercise. LAHS Seeks Hall Of Fame Nominations

The Los Alamos High School Athletic Department is accepting nominations for its 2015 Hall of Fame Class.

Nomination forms can be found on the LAHS Athletic Department website or picked up in the Athletic Office at Los Alamos High School, 1300 Diamond Dr.

There are three categories for nominations: 

  • Former athlete;
  • Former coach (head, assistant, volunteer from mid school or high school); and
  • Contributor to LAPS athletics.

LAHS Topper Cheer Team Takes 2nd Place At District 2 5A Competition

The Los Alamos High School Topper Cheer Team achieved a 2nd place finish at the District 2 5A competition Saturday, March 21 at Capital High School in Santa Fe. In addition to cheering at home and away games in support of Topper athletics, the LAHS Cheer Team is required to participate in three competitions during the school year in order to participate in the State Spirit Competition. Los Alamos Gymnasts Shine At New Mexico Level 4 And 5 Junior Olympic Championships

This past weekend the New Mexico State championships for the level 4 and 5 junior Olympic program were held at Eagle Ridge Gymnastics in Albuquerque.

Katie Wingo represented Los Alamos School of Gymnastics in the level 5 junior age division. Wingo brought home a gold medal on beam. She was the balance beam champion with an 8.95 on that event. Wingo was fourth in the all around with a 34.975. Her other placements included fifth on vault (8.85) and bars (8.525) and sixth on floor (8.65).

Registration Open For YMCA Spring Session For Volleyball Grades 3-6 Until April 10

The Family YMCA Spring Session Volleyball is now open for registration up until April 10.
 
This is a developmental program focused on teaching and improving proper volleyball skills in order to provide participants the foundation to play and compete for years to come.
 
The season starts April 14 through May 21 for 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the YMCA Gymnasium in Los Alamos. Cost is $60 / $40 for Y members.
