Woman Injured On Atomic City Bus This Morning

An Atomic City Transit bus driver braked abruptly at the intersection of Diamond Drive and 38th Street to avoid a collision this morning causing a female passenger to fall forward and hit her head on a pole inside the bus. Los Alamos Police Department and Fire Department personnel responded to the scene. Warren: On The Road In South Dakota

Photographer Gary Warren, formerly of Los Alamos, on a road trip with his wife Marilyn, just spent about two weeks in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He spotted this young Lakota woman performing a hoop dance, which is all about her life. She is 23 years old and uses one hoop for each year so she is dancing with 23 hoops. The massive carving underway in the background is the Crazy Horse Memorial. The Lakota Indians wanted to honor one of their leaders so they hired a sculptor from Boston to carve this memorial image out of the granite mountain (like Mt. Rushmore but on a much grander scale). NMDOT Announces Update To State Rail Plan

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation recently announced the development of an updated state Rail Plan. The 2018 Rail Plan will describe the current state of New Mexico’s rail system, articulate a strategic vision for the future of the rail system, and identify projects and funding sources to support that vision.
 
The contract to complete the Rail Plan was awarded in April. The Department anticipates that the development of the Rail Plan will continue for eighteen months, concluding in the fall of 2018.
