WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) issued the following statement after the Department of Transportation announced a new general rule requiring two-person crews on railroads:

Guardrail Repairs Begin Around Town Monday

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets will be providing traffic control for Valley Fence Company, which will be repairing damaged guardrails in the following locations:

          • North Road between Diamond Drive and Quemazon Place;
          • Range Road by the Fire Station;
          • Canyon Road at 15th Street; and
          • Camp May Road.

Work will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end by 3:30 p.m. daily starting Monday, April 8 and continue through the week until completed.

There will be flagging operations at all locations. Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will not be interrupted.

Westbound Lane Closure On Diamond Begins Monday

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets will provide traffic control for Valley Fence Company, which is repairing a section of guardrail on Diamond Drive west of Arkansas Avenue.

Work will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 8 and continue until completed.

The westbound right lane will be closed at Arkansas Avenue. A bicycle lane will be maintained through the work zone. Pedestrian traffic will be safely flagged through the work zone.

Motorists are urged to slow down in the area and watch out for cyclists, pedestrians, crews and equipment.

Loma Linda Road Improvements Project Restarts April 8

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Public Works Division is under contract with Albuquerque Asphalt, Inc. to resume work on the Loma Linda Roadway Improvements project on La Mirada Circle, La Tierra Road and Loma Linda Drive in the Loma Linda neighborhood.

The contractor will return from the winter suspension to complete the project, which is scheduled for June 2024.

Work will include removal of existing roadway material and the replacement of a new asphalt surface. This work will start Monday April 8, on Loma Linda Drive then proceed to La Tierra Road and La Mirada Circle.

Over Spring Break, cadets from Los Alamos NJROTC traveled to Colorado to put eyes and hands on what they have been learning about in the classroom throughout the year.
