A winter storm warning alert has been issued through midnight Monday, March 18.

          • What: Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations 2 to 5 inches, and 6 and 13 inches above 8,000 feet.
          • Where: Jemez Mountains and Tusas Mountains Including Chama.
          • When: 6 a.m. today to midnight Monday Night.
          • Impacts: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Some roads may be closed. Significant travel delays are possible.

Non-Essential County Facilities Closed Due To Storm

COUNTY News:

Due to inclement weather, County Manager Anne Laurent has ordered the closure of all non-essential County government facilities and services today, March 15. This includes the Aquatic Center, libraries, Golf Pro Shop, Eco Transfer Station and Fuller Lodge.

While the Nature Center, Fuller Lodge Art Center and visitor centers are closed, the Los Alamos History Museum is open.

County staff recommends that individuals call any facility not listed to determine if they will be open or closed today.

N.M. 4 Water Transmission Line Repair Postponed

The emergency repair on a water transmission line along N.M. 4 that was supposed to start today has been rescheduled for Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 24, due to winter weather conditions.

The broken water line is on the east side of N.M. 4 about halfway between East Jemez Road and the turnoff to N.M. 502.

Southbound Block Of Oppenheimer Closed Today

COUNTY News:

The southbound block of Oppenheimer between Central Avenue and Trinity Drive will be closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, March 15 for utility work.

Crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities will be potholing to locate water valves under the road. The work is scheduled to continue daily through March 22.

Phase II of the Rose Street Reconstruction Project is scheduled to begin Monday, March 18, with the closure of Rose Street from Circle Drive to Spruce Street. This phase of the project involves underground utility work.

Concrete Work On San Ildefonso Road Has Begun

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets has begun to repair sections of sidewalk along San Ildefonso Road. The sections are between Camino Uva and North Mesa Road as well as between North Mesa Park Road and Sioux Street.

Work will continue through March 8. To facilitate a smooth flow of pedestrian and bike traffic during the repair process, crews will be present to assist individuals around the work zones as needed.
