Annabelle Rosette, a junior in high school, performed on cello for an admiring audience at the Rotary Club meeting Aug. 22 at Cottonwood on the Greens. The selections she chose were La Cinquantaine, written in 1887 by Jean-Gabriel Prosper Marie, a French romantic composer and conductor, and The Sounds of Silence, written by American folk singer and songwriter Paul Simon in 1964.

Wahweap Overlook in 2016 – this image and the two below were taken from the Wahweap Overlook just outside of Page, Ariz. The images were all taken from the same overlook but not necessarily the exact same angle, etc. The water level is dramatically different in each image. Rock Slide, Unstable Conditions Close N.M. 4 Near TA-39

Update: The road is reopened in both directions.

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) is reporting a road closure on N.M. 4 at mile marker 57 near Technical Area 39.

The road is closed in both directions due to a rock slide and unstable conditions.

NMDOT is on scene along with Los Alamos police officers. 

Motorists are advised to avoid the area until field crews can clear the roadway and deem it safe for passage. Read More

County Announces Loma Linda Road Improvements Project

Los Alamos County Public Works Division is under contract with Albuquerque Asphalt, Inc. to start work on the Loma Linda Roadway Improvements project on La Mirada Circle, La Tierra Road and Loma Linda Drive in the Loma Linda neighborhood.

The contractor is performing preliminary work such as mobilization, construction staking, and staging area setup. This work will be in preparation to start construction work activities soon after. The project scope was presented to the public at the regularly scheduled Transportation Board held in June.

Caution: Last School Year LAPS Recorded 230+ Incidents Of Cars Passing School Buses With Red Lights Flashing…

Last school year Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) recorded more than 230 incidents of cars passing school buses when the red lights were flashing and the stop arm extended, according to LAPS Transportation Director Keith Rosenbaum.

The first day of school for Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) for the new school year was Aug. 9. School buses are sharing the road with drivers commuting to work, as well as parents dropping off students at school and high school students driving themselves to school.

Scene of Toby, a grizzly bear cooling of in water that White Rock residents Linda and Barbara Uher saw during their recent trip to Alaska. Toby weighs about 1,200 pounds and stands 6 feet tall at her shoulder. She learned how to sign for more food by putting her paws together in front of her chest. Toby has a brother Balloo, her brother Lucky died in 2017. Her mother died from ingesting  plastic bags she found in a garbage can. Toby lives at Fortress of the Bear rescue center in Sitka, Alaska.
