Probably well-over 90-percent of the trout caught each year in New Mexico are triploid rainbow trout that began life in one of New Mexico’s fish hatcheries. Each year, the State Game and Fish Department stocks literally tons of these trout every week in New Mexico.

Young Eagles Rally At Los Alamos Airport Saturday Oct. 21

EAA News:

EAA Chapter 691 of the Experimental Aircraft Association is hosting a Young Eagles Rally on Oct. 21, 2023, at the Los Alamos Airport.  

They will be giving free airplane rides to kids 8-17 years old. Parents can register online for the rally at https://youngeaglesday.org/?yedetail&event=890wd8o3Q. A legal guardian must accompany the child to the Rally where they will need to sign a registration form and a waiver prior to the child’s flight.  

The Los Alamos Civil Air Patrol will also be at the Rally and available to answer questions about their aviation program.

Jemez Mountain Trail Sale Celebrates 20th Year With Expansion And Map App Oct. 21-22

Jemez Mountain Trail Sale News:

JEMEZ SPRINGS — The annual Jemez Mountain Trail Sale, which takes place Oct. 21-22, is celebrating  20 years as the longest – and most scenic – yard sale in New Mexico, with stops from San Ysidro throughout the Jemez Valley.

“Cluster” locations will be peppered along the Jemez Mountain Scenic Byway, which traverses 163 miles.

Cortez Municipal Airport To Host 3rd Four Corners Fall Fly-In

CORTEZ, Colo. – The 3rd Annual Four Corners Fall Fly-In, hosted by the Cortez Municipal Airport and sponsored in part by Mesa Verde Country, will take place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14.

The event features “wings and wheels” as well as a unique place to catch the spectacular Annular Solar Eclipse, which will pass right over Cortez during the event. Attendees will get a free pair of eclipse glasses for viewing the solar phenomenon.

County & Pajarito Astronomers Dark Sky Event Tonight!

Los Alamos County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Divisions have partnered up with the Pajarito Astronomers for the Dark Night program.

Anyone with an interest in star gazing and the chance to look through a telescope is invited to come out to Spirio Soccer Fields tonight, Oct. 7, 2023, at Overlook Park in White Rock.

Volunteers from the Pajarito Astronomers Club will be present with telescopes starting about 7:30 p.m. until at least 10:30 p.m., and as late as midnight if there is continued interest.
