Learn the “old ways” at Jemez Historic Site of how Indigenous Peoples farmed and shared food to prosper 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at Jemez Historic Site.

Take part in the “Gardens of Gisewa: Cooking, Eating, and Growing Together” agricultural demonstration. The ancient village of Gisewa, much like other villages in the region, could have among other things been a place to gather and share what was brought from surrounding villages and areas.

New Mexico Childhood Obesity Report Shows Progress

NMDOH News:

SANTA FE — Obesity rates have decreased for third graders for the fourth consecutive year, based on the most recent data from 40 schools in 21 counties.

Despite the decline, New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) officials say obesity remains a complex and serious public health concern in New Mexico and across the nation. Food insecurity, among other factors, can affect childhood obesity rates.  

Key findings from the report, issued by NMDOH’s Obesity, Nutrition and Physical Activity Program (ONAPA):

Author Talk/Writing Workshop: Diné Poet Loley April 5

The Los Alamos Public Library will host New Mexico-born Diné poet and novelist, Manny Loley Saturday, April 5 at Mesa Public Library.

Loley will begin an author talk at 1 p.m. sharing his work, his path as a writer, and the role of storytelling in the region. Following the author talk, Loley will lead a free writing workshop 2-4 p.m. for wordsmiths of all experience levels.
