With the extensive flooding in the Las Vegas area, especially along the Gallinas River, it is best to avoid this area as crews clean up and repair damage.

Heavy rainfall two weeks ago raised stream flows to higher than normal. This past week was drier, and stream flows fell back to near and below normal.  More rain is forecast for this coming week so stream flows may rise again. It is always a good idea to check conditions at the location you are headed to. Stream flows can be checked on the United States Geological Survey (USGS) streamflow website. Read More

New Mexico Tourism Department Welcomes Nine First-Time Participants To Cooperative Marketing Grant Program For FY25 Including Los Alamos

NMTD News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) is awarding $3.8 million in grant funding to 48 entities through the Cooperative Marketing Grant Program for fiscal year 2025. Los Alamos County will receive $133,614.

NMTD is instituting a 2-to-1 funding match for FY25, meaning the monetary obligation from grant recipients is only 33 percent of the grant total provided by NMTD. Due to this 2-to-1 funding match, the total advertising investment for FY25 is an estimated $5.7 million.

Sonja Behnke  was the best predictor in the Atomic City Road Runners weekly pace race held Tuesday  on the Canada Bonita Trail by the Pajarito Ski Hill. She was 8 seconds off her predicted time.

SANTA FE — A group from “New Mexico Volunteers for the Outdoors” (NMVFO) successfully cleared downed trees and debris from three trails in the San Pedro Parks Wilderness of the Cuba Ranger District.

Twelve volunteers, supported by five members of the Jemez Chapter of Back Country Horsemen, successfully removed 202 downed trees along 3.3 miles of the Palomas, Perchas and Penas Negras trails. Read More
