Kaitlyn Maria Crowned 2025 New Mexico State Fair Queen

ALBUQUERQUE – Kaitlyn Maria of Belen was named the 2025 New Mexico State Fair Queen Saturday, during a coronation ceremony at the African American Performing Arts Center at Expo New Mexico.

Maria is a Central New Mexico College graduate and works as an electrician in Belen.  She is also a proud member of the Navajo Nation.

“I am so excited to represent the New Mexico State Fair and the sport of rodeo,” Maria said. “I cannot wait to see what this year has in store for me.”

National Public Lands Day Volunteer Event At Abiquiu Lake

USACE News:

ABIQUIU — The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Albuquerque District staff at Abiquiu Lake will host a National Public Lands Day event where the public can volunteer to help improve their public lands, Saturday, Sept. 28.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at Group Shelter 3, by the boat ramp. No pre-registration is necessary. The Cerrito Boat Ramp at Abiquiu Lake is at the east side of the dam, 2 miles west of the Hwy 84 and Hwy 96 junction. All are welcome to participate.

With Josh Turner’s show sold out, state fair officials announced today that they’re releasing additional tickets for the Josh Turner concert. By opening floor space for the Sept. 14 concert, hundreds more fairgoers can experience an incredible performance by the country music superstar.

Stanley Is Best Predictor In Weekly Pace Race

Cliff Stanley was the top predictor in the Atomic City Road Runners (ACRR) weekly pace race held early Tuesday evening on Arizona Avenue at the Pajarito Complex.

Stanley was 6 seconds off his predicted time as well as the first male finisher on the 1 mile course. 

Other accurate predictors:

  • Deana Tsang with a 8 second differential;
  • David Liu recording a 13 second difference;
  • Sasha Tomalak at 14 seconds off; and

On the 1 mile distance:

  • Lisa Johnson was the top finisher at 11:47.

SFNF Issues Closure Order In Española Ranger District

The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has issued a temporary closure for sections of Forest Road 102 and the Windsor Trail in the Española Ranger District. This is a temporary closure to protect traditional and cultural resources and uses.

This Order went into effect at 8 a.m. Sept. 12 and remains in effect through 8 a.m. Sept. 15, unless rescinded.
