Registration Underway For YMCA Youth Basketball

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA honors the principals of the former all-girls Los Alamos Basketball program that it assumed several years ago, with the philosophy that all-girls teams foster a learning and growing dynamic that will help hone skill with teammates they could play with in future years.

The Y is taking youth basketball registration until Nov. 23 for all girls teams grades 3-4 and 4-5, co-ed teams for grade 1-2 and all-boys teams grades 3-4 and 5-6. Teams are based on the school where the players attend and will practice at a local gym. Games are Saturdays in January and February.

When the organizers of the JMTR (Jemez Mountain Trail Run) approached the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) last spring about volunteering to manage the Pipeline Road aid station, PEEC staff and volunteers jumped at the chance to help out such a worthwhile cause.

Los Alamos Blast (11U) Wins Lower Flight Championship

Last weekend the Los Alamos Blast (11U) won the Lower Flight Championship at the 8th Annual Veteran’s Day USSSA Invitational Baseball Boys 11 & Under Open tournament in Rio Rancho. The tournament roster includes Jackson Ballard, Logan Capon, Carson Dickson, Taylor Drake, Matthew McNiel, Tommy Oldham, Wesley Stanfield, Charles Steinkamp, Ty Swavely, Caden Thornton, Calvin Wimer and Joshua Woodson. Atomic Tumblers Open Gymnastics Season In Taos

ATOMIC TUMBLERS News:

Four teams competed Saturday, Oct. 11 in the New Mexico season opener for USA Gymnastics. High Altitude Athletics of Taos played host to Los Alamos, Rio Rancho, and Gold Cup of Albuquerque. Ninety – two gymnasts competed in the day’s activities.

Ashley Bustos, of Los Alamos Atomic Tumblers had the highest score of the day with a 36.75. Ashley competed in the Xcel Platinum division, the highest division in the meet. Sofia Enriquez has won the logo contest for the 2014 CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot. Her design will adorn scores of new t-shirts to be worn by all who walk or run the course Nov. 23.

The CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot has been held annually in Los Alamos for many years. Each year a contest is held inviting all Los Alamos fourth through sixth graders to submit designs for the walk/run t-shirt.
