Sonja Behnke  was the best predictor in the Atomic City Road Runners weekly pace race held Tuesday  on the Canada Bonita Trail by the Pajarito Ski Hill. She was 8 seconds off her predicted time.

Weekly Fishing Report: July 3, 2024

There has been extensive flooding in the Las Vegas area, especially along the Gallinas River. It is best to avoid this area as crews clean up after the floods. 

Recent rainfall has changed conditions on several rivers. The Pecos River and the Jemez River are running much higher than last week. Streamflows are above normal for this time of year. 

Lakes and reservoirs are starting to warm up. Early mornings and evenings will soon be the best times to be out on the water.

Mountain Club swimmers won first place in the 2024 New Mexico Games held June 16 at West Mesa Aquatic Center in Albuquerque. Duke City Barracuda finished second and Kraken Team earned third.

Mountain Club had 27 swimmers with 81 individual events and 9 relays during this meet. The age groups are 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18, and Masters age groups in 5 year increments. Read More

James Zola was the top predictor in the Atomic City Road Runner’s (ACRR) weekly pace race held at East Park with a 3 second differential from his predicted time.

Other accurate predictors were:

  • Zach Medin recording a 8 second difference;
  • Tony Borek at 10 seconds off; Chris Michel with a 15 second differential; and
  • Holly Walker at 21 seconds off as well as the best finisher in the 1 mile race with a time of 7:38.

Spring runoff has peaked early and streamflows are dropping throughout the state. This is an excellent time to fish streams like the Rio Chama. Rio de los Pinos and the Pecos. The higher flows of spring runoff put the trout in an actively feeding mood and now that the flows are dropping and easier to fish the fishing can be quite good.
